Assalaamu Alaikum. We pray that everyone is well and that the beautiful weather is bringing some comfort and enjoyment to you and your loved ones.

Please note that although some mosques in the city have started opening up gradually, WCM is still closed. We are remaining vigilant because of our unique challenges as an organization and facility. The province is allowing up the 50 people for indoor gatherings provided social distancing is still in place. Given our smaller entrances and exits, proper distancing will be hard to guarantee. We also want to avoid scenarios where we may have to turn people away because numbers are too many - which could be the case if some are not fully informed.

As an organization, it is our responsibility to provide a safe space. Many of us have family members who are more vulnerable to illness - including our elders. Even if they do not come to the mosque, they are at risk if we are interacting with them.

As the province opens up and quarantine restrictions are reduced for people traveling in and out of Manitoba, there is a possibility of a second wave of cases. We are praying that will not be the case. However given our organization and facility limitations, we prefer to remain vigilant for now.

It has been challenging for our community to not attend the masjid during our most sacred month of Ramadan. But if we managed that, then inshaAllah we will be okay not attending the masjid for a little longer.

We encourage you to continue praying together with family in your homes or even outside (with social distancing in mind). There is reward in jamaat prayer wherever we are. Other than unclean places or graveyards, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has told us that the "entire earth is a masjid."

InshaAllah we will gather together at the mosque soon. Until then, take care and continue to protect yourselves and others. May Allah (SWT) reward you for your patience and perseverance.

Based on government advisories and the strong recommendation of national Muslim organizations such as the Canadian Council of Imams, the Muslim Medical Association of Canada, the Islamic Society of North America and the Fiqh Council of North America – WCM will be suspending all classes and gatherings in the mosque effective immediately. The mosque will also be closed for the five daily prayers and will not be holding jummah prayers, tarawih prayers or tahajjud prayers until further notice.

May Allah (SW) bless you all for your understanding. We realize that it is difficult to see mosque closures happening around the city and across the country. However as Muslims we are obliged to do our part in preventing harm. We know from Ahadith that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has advised us to take strict precautions against the spread of disease, including restrictions on gatherings.

May Allah (SW) help us all to weather this storm with patience and kindness. InshaAllah we will all find ways to help one another and build relationships through this trial. Please check on friends and community members who are elderly or isolated. Use this time to nurture family relationships and focus on self-care. Find innovative ways to conserve. Cook meals together. Pray together at home. Have halaqas with friends online. We can translate our mosque community experiences to our homes. Share your ideas with friends. It’s time to be creative! May Allah (SW) protect us all and guide us always towards sincere intention and action. Ameen.
