House Warming Gifts for Newcomers

MIA is calling on the community to show its support for new comers from Syria. We are in need for donations to directly support new comer families. A donation of $500 will provide a family with a home warming gift once they move into a permanent home. The gift includes kitchenware ( dinner set, cookingware set, flatware set with tray, glasses set), bed in a bag (1 queen and 2 twin for a family of 4), vacuum cleaner and iron and iron stand plus groceries. 
Insha Allah we can all rise to the level of the Ansar and follow the Quran's guidance to "spend of what you love".

MIA JOB OPPORTUNITY: Settlement Support Officer For New Comers

MIA Job Opportunity: Settlement Support Officer For New Comers



The MIA has an immediate opening for a settlement support officer to support and work under the guidance of the the MIA Refugee Support Committee. 



Essential duties of the settlement support officer include liaising with transitional housing providers and new comer families, identifying housing needs, identifying suitable rental properties, showing rental properties for new comers and providing assistance in the leasing process. The settlement support officer is also expected to perform related administrative tasks and maintain records and documentation.

 

Required skills:
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience. 
  • Valid drivers license. Must provide own vehicle (mileage allowance will be provided). 
  • Fluent in Arabic and English. Other languages a plus. 
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure and with clients who are under the stress of relocation and refugee experience.  Must be client focused, organized and reliable. 
This is a part time (maximum 20 hours/week) term position for 3 months, with possibility of renewal and expansion of hours and duties.Compensation includes mileage allowance.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM - TOASTMASTERS WINNIPEG - Ages 12-18 - Saturdays 12-2 pm at WCM - March 28 to June 20.

The Youth Leadership Program is a workshop consisting of eight one- to two-hour sessions that enable participants to develop communication and leadership skills through practical experience. Participants learn to:

  • Evaluate present speaking ability
  • Organize and give speeches
  • Give impromptu talks
  • Control voice, vocabulary and gestures
  • Give constructive feedback and more
